Wellbeing Services County of Lapland in English

The wellbeing services county of Lapland is responsible for organising public health, social and rescue services in Lapland.

The wellbeing services county of Lapland consists of 21 municipalities: Enontekiö, Inari, Kemi, Keminmaa, Kemijärvi, Kittilä, Kolari, Muonio, Pello, Pelkosenniemi, Posio, Ranua, Rovaniemi, Salla, Savukoski, Simo, Sodankylä, Tervola, Tornio, Utsjoki and Ylitornio.

There is only one emergency number in Finland. Please do not call the emergency number unless you have a genuine emergency for which you need urgent assistance from the authorities (police, paramedics, firefighters, social services).

Emergency clinics

The Emergency clinics are for emergencies and sudden illnesses and injuries where because of the illness or accident it is not possible to wait until the next day for a doctor’s appointment. The Emergency clinics treats patients requiring immediate treatment around the clock.

There is two Emergency clinics in Lapland. One in Rovaniemi and one in Kemi.

The Emergency clinic is intended for patients whose illness requires immediate assessment and care, and whose treatment cannot be left to a later date without a significant danger to their health.

You cannot make appointments to the Emergency clinic. The waiting time will vary according to number of people waiting. The order of arrival will not decide who is treated first, but the staff of the Emergency clinic will assess the order of urgency on the basis of their state and the severity of their illness.

If you are visiting in Lapland:
Health problems that do not require emergency treatment, such as normal colds and their complications, prolonged back pain, recent cases of diarrhea can be treated also for example in private health clinics.
